SERVICE INFORMATION

While there are three different transmission configurations that might be installed in an Applied 1996-1999 Pathfinder if service or replacement of the transmission is required, only one configuration will be correct.

See the Service Procedure provided in this bulletin to:

^ Identify which transmission assembly is currently installed in the vehicle and

^ Determine which replacement transmission assembly should be installed in the vehicle.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Identify Current Transmission Configuration

Identify which of three different transmission assembly configurations is installed in the vehicle. The three transmission configurations are:





1. Standard/original equipment 2WD transmission assembly configuration with slip joint-type driveshaft yoke - See Figure 1:





2. 2WD transmission assembly configuration with flange-type driveshaft yoke - See Figure 2:





3. 4WD transmission assembly configuration with transfer case locked in "high" and slip joint-type driveshaft yoke - See Figure 3:

Determine Replacement Transmission Assembly





1. Use Chart A to assist in determining the appropriate replacement transmission assembly.
