SERVICE INFORMATION

If the customer of a 1996-99 Pathfinder indicates that one or all of the following symptoms exist, the cause may be low retraction force of the front seat belt retractor assembly(s). New front seat belt retractor assemblies are now available to resolve these symptoms, if they should occur.

^ Front seat belt latch plate hangs up on the clothing on the customer's lap after the seat belt buckle release button is depressed

^ Front seat belt latch plate gets stuck in the door after the seat belt buckle release button is depressed when the door is closed

^ Front seat belt latch plate does not fully retract after the seat belt buckle release button is depressed

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Install a new front seat belt retractor assembly(s) according to the replacement procedure in the RS section of the applicable Pathfinder Service Manual. Refer to the Parts Information section of this bulletin for the new front seat belt retractor assembly part numbers.
