1999-00 PATHFINDER; MIL 'ON' WITH REAR OXYGEN SENSOR DTC P0138-P0140 OR P0158-P0160 STORED
ATTENTION: THIS BULLETIN HAS BEEN AMENDED.
This amended version of NTB01-04B revises "Chart A", and the Parts Information section. Please refer to this bulletin (NTB01-048A) and discard previously distributed paper copies of NTB01-048.
APPLIED VEHICLE:
1999-00 Pathfinder (R50)
APPLIED VIN:
1999 MY vehicles; last six digits of VIN 350001 and higher (see NOTE in step 2)
2000 MY vehicles: all VINs
SERVICE INFORMATION
If an applied vehicle has a MIL "On" with any of the following DTCs stored in the ECM;
^ P0138 (Bank 1) H02S2 (Rear) (Max Voltage Monitoring)
^ P0139 (Bank 1) H02S2 (Rear) (Response Monitoring)
^ P0140 (Bank 1) H02S2 (Rear) (High Voltage)
^ P0158 (Bank 2) H02S2 (Rear) (Max Voltage Monitoring)
^ P0159 (Bank 2) H02S2 (Rear) (Response Monitoring)
^ P0160 (Bank 2) H02S2 (Rear) (High Voltage)
There are two repair actions that may be required to resolve this incident;
1. Replace the incident bank(s) rear oxygen sensor(s) as indicated by the DTC on the CONSULT-II self-diagnosis printout to correct the condition.
2. Reprogram the vehicle's ECM to the New ECM Data P/N.
Use the diagnosis/repair flow chart as shown and the appropriate Service Procedure steps provided in this bulletin to diagnose and repair this incident, if it should occur.
These are the ONLY approved repair procedures for this incident. If the vehicle falls within this bulletin range, a claim to Nissan for the repair of this incident may be denied if the repairs are not performed exactly as outlined in this bulletin.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Perform the Rear Oxygen Sensor Replacement procedure below.
Rear Oxygen Sensor Replacement:
A. Determine which DTC code is stored in the vehicle's ECM by performing CONSULT-II self-diagnosis. See Figure 1 for an example of the CONSULT-II self-diagnosis printout.
B. Replace the incident bank(s) rear oxygen sensor(s) as indicated by the DTC on the CONSULT-II self-diagnosis printout (see the Parts Information chart for correct part numbers). See Figure 2 shown for sensor/sensor harness connector locations.
2. Perform the ECM Part Number Identification and Update procedure below. ECM Part Number Identification and Update:
A. Determine the vehicle's ECM Part Number. The ECM P/N is found on top of the CONSULT-II self-diagnosis printout (see Figure 3), or by CONSULT ECM P/N Selection.
B. Compare the vehicle's ECM P/N to those shown under Current ECM P/N and New ECM Data P/N in Chart A shown.
^ If the ECM P/N in the vehicle matches one of those listed under "Current ECM P/N" in the above chart proceed to Step 3 perform ECM reprogramming.
^ If the ECM P/N in the vehicle does not match one of those listed under "Current ECM Data P/N" in Chart A (above) do not perform ECM reprogramming. The procedure is complete if the incident bank(s) 02 sensor(s) were replaced as part of this bulletin.
NOTE:
^ 1999 MY vehicles with last six digits of VIN 350000 and lower have ECMs that are NOT re-programmable.
^ 1999 MY vehicles with the last six digits of VIN 350001 and higher and all 2000 MY vehicles have re-programmable ECMs.
3. Perform ECM reprogramming to update the ECM data to the new P/N. ASIST users use "ECM Reprogramming For Nissan Vehicles" general procedure or refer to Attachment A.
NOTE:
Vehicles must be reprogrammed using the larger DDL-2 (white Generic Scan Tool [GST]) connector. Also if CONSULT-II does not automatically come on after plugging it in to the DDL-2 connector and turning the ignition key on, you will have to press the CONSULT-II power button to turn the unit on.

CLAIMS INFORMATION
NOTE:
This is the ONLY approved repair procedure for this incident. A claim to Nissan for the repair of this incident may be denied if the repair is not performed exactly as outlined in this bulletin.
If both the ECM is reprogrammed and the 02 sensor(s) are replaced, submit a Primary Failed Part (PP) line claim using the claims coding as shown.
