SERVICE INFORMATION
If the ambient (outside) temperature display on a Pathfinder (R50) vehicle reads inaccurately, particularly 7-10 °F too high (above the actual ambient temperature), use the service procedure in this bulletin to resolve the incident.
An improved temperature meter assembly is now available.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Replace the Temperature Meter Assembly as follows:
1. Open the sunglass holder lid and remove the screw located at the right side of the opening (see figure 1).
2. Remove the roof console by carefully pulling it down until the four metal clips, on the backside of the console, are released (see figure 2a).
3. Disconnect the following connectors from the roof console (see figure 2b):
^ Map light connector
^ Temperature meter assembly connector
^ Sunroof switch connector (if applicable)
CAUTION:
To avoid damage to connectors, see the harness connector description information in the first part of the EL section of the appropriate Service Manual.
4. Once the connectors are disconnected, remove the temperature meter assembly from the roof console (2 screws, see figure 3).
5. Install the new temperature meter assembly. Reinstall the two screws removed in step 4. Confirm the date code is 280801 or after (see figure 3).
NOTE:
^ The part number for the improved temperature meter assembly has not changed (see Parts Information).
^ The countermeasure date code is 280801
^ Date code 280801 (see illustration) reads 28th of August, 2001.
^ DO NOT use a temperature meter assembly with a date code that is before 280801 for this incident. (Example: 270801 can not be used for this incident.)
6. Reinstall the roof console assembly in reverse order.
7. Confirm all roof console electrical functions (i.e., switches, lights, etc.) operate normally.
PARTS INFORMATION
NOTE:
Do not use a temperature meter assembly with a date code that is older than 280801 for this incident (see step 5).
