SERVICE INFORMATION
If the sun shade on a 1996-1999 Pathfinder is difficult to move forward or backward or will not move at all, the sun shade clips may have disengaged from the sun roof track. These clips may then break or deform and prevent movement of the sun shade.
If this condition should occur, use the Service Procedure below to install the parts listed and replace the sun shade assembly, if needed.
NOTE:
This procedure does not apply to 1999.5+ Pathfinders (R50). See Applied VIN information, above.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Open the sun roof glass and remove the sun shade assembly from the roof top side.
2. Remove the headliner (refer to the appropriate Service Manual, Body And Trim Section, Roof Trim).
3. Remove the rear drain assembly (refer to the appropriate Service Manual, Body And Trim Section, Sun Roof).
Figure 1:
4. Install an additional rubber stopper (P/N 91254-0W010) onto the sun roof frame assembly (see Figure 1).
Figure 2:
5. Clean the surface of the sun roof frame rails (Locations 1 and 2 ONLY in Figure 2) using Nissan Brake Cleaner (Nissan P/N 999MP-A3042).
CAUTION:
Protect the interior of the vehicle from brake cleaner over spray by spraying the brake cleaner onto a clean shop rag and then wiping the sun roof frame rails.
Figure 3:
6. Install front slider shades (P/N 91270-0W010) along the left and right sides of the sun roof rail assembly (at locations 1 and 2, just cleaned with brake cleaner). See Figure 3.
CAUTION:
Do not allow the front end of the slider shades to contact the sun shade clips or the rear end of the slider shades to contact the rivets on the sun roof rails (see Figure 3).
7. Re-install the rear drain assembly.
8. Check the clips on the sun shade assembly that was removed in Step 1. If these clips are broken or deformed, install a new sun shade assembly (see the Parts Information Section of this bulletin for detail).
9. Slowly open and close the sun shade assembly 10-20 times. This will help press the front slider shades down.
10. Confirm that the front slider shades are not curling at the ends.
11. Confirm that the sun shade closes easily.
NOTE:
If it is difficult to close the sun shade, apply a small amount of grease to the sun roof rails and bracket.
If the sun shade moves too easily when closing, remove excess grease from the sun roof rails and bracket.
12. Re-install the headliner.
