Wind Leak Sound Across Top(S) of Door(S)
Verify:There may be a wind leak sound across the top(s) of the door(s). The incident is usually more pronounced during cross wind gusts.
Incident may be duplicated by an assistant (not the driver) pushing outwards at the top of the door while the vehicle is being driven.
Isolate:
Figure 9:
The outer lip of the drip rail weatherstrip may not exert enough outward force on the door to completely seal against wind noise. Install foam seal into the drip rail weatherstrip (see Figure 9) using the repair procedure below to resolve the incident.
Repair:
1. Cut a piece of foam tape (3M Scotchfoam P/N 021200-03320 Tape # 4504 or equivalent) approximately 116cm (45.67 in) long, 5 mm (approximately 1/4 in) thick, and 5 mm (approximately 1/4 in) wide.
Figure 10:
2. Add the foam into the groove of the drip rail molding, along the length of the roof line, A to C pillar (see Figure 10). This will increase the contact force between the door and the weatherstrip, sealing the air gap.
3. With doors closed, run a business card in-between the doors and the drip rail molding from A-pillar to C-pillar to determine if the clearance is O.K. Adjust accordingly by adding or decreasing the thickness of the foam insert.
NOTE:
O.K. is some resistance along entire path, N.G. is free to move (no resistance) or does not move at all (too much resistance).
Recheck:
Test the vehicle as described in "Verify" above to ensure the repair is complete.
