1996-98 PATHFINDER UNEVEN RIDE HEIGHT

APPLIED VEHICLE:
1996-98 Pathfinder (R50)

SERVICE INFORMATION

This is not considered a product campaign; normal warranty conditions apply. Please refer to your current Flat Rate Schedule (FRI).

If a 1996-98 Pathfinder appears to have an uneven ride height when parked on a flat surface, the left front spring may be compressed more than the right spring due to unequal suspension weight distribution.

A countermeasure left front spring is available to resolve this condition. Use this bulletin to diagnose and repair the vehicle.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Verify that the inflation pressure in the tires is at the proper level (26 psi for all tires).

2. Position the vehicle (with no occupants or cargo) on a flat surface.

3. Measure the distance between the ground and the highest point of the front wheel well arch (see Figure 1).

4. If the left side measurement is at least . . . lower than the right side, refer to the FA section of the service manual to replace the left front strut spring with the CIM spring listed in the parts table. Use the special tool (Kent Moore # J42956 or equivalent) in Figure 2 to ensure the strut rod does not rotate when removing the lock nut.

5. During reassembly, be sure to position the spring as shown in Figure 3.

6. Reassemble the strut assembly using new nuts (see parts table).

CAUTION:
Note that the lock nut (first nut listed in the Parts Information table) has a different part number depending on whether the strut is standard or electric.
