1996-98 PATHFINDER EXHAUST SYSTEM WARRANTY EXTENSION INFORMATION
APPLIED VEHICLE:
All 1996-98 Pathfinder (R50)
This amended version of NTB98-062 expands the Applied VIN information and updates the Applied Vehicle information to include all vehicles to which this warranty extension applies. This amendment also includes a Muffler Replacement Criteria procedure. Please discard all paper copies of NTB98-062.
SERVICE INFORMATION
The Nissan New Vehicle Limited Warranty for the applied vehicles, as it applies to repair of the exhaust manifold, the main muffler assembly and the post muffler assembly only, has been extended as shown.
Warranty Period
For your reference, a copy of the owner letter is included in this bulletin.
Muffler Replacement Criteria
Main Muffler
^ If the muffler body is perforated due to corrosion, replace it.
^ If the mounting brackets are cracked or broken, see the repair information in technical bulletin NTB98-079.
Post Muffler
Inspect the post muffler for rattle noise and corrosion as follows:
1. NOISE: Gently tap the rear muffler assembly with a rubber mallet on the front end casing and listen for any rattle noise that may come from the muffler.
A. If there is no noise, proceed to the corrosion inspection.
B. If there is a rattle noise replace the muffler.
2. CORROSION: Visually inspect the bottom rear edge of the post muffler.

A. If there is no corrosion or corrosion that does not go more than 1.75 inches beyond the center of the bottom seam, the muffler is OK (see Figure 1).

B. If the corrosion extends beyond 1.75 inches from the center of the bottom seam or there is any perforation due to rust, replace the muffler (see Figure 2).
