Steering Gear: Adjustments









TURNING TORQUE MEASUREMENT
1. Measure turning torque at 360° position.
a. Install steering gear on Tool.
b. Turn stub shaft all the way to right and left several times.





c. Measure turning torque at 360° position from straight ahead position with Tools. Turning torque at 360°: 0.15 - 0.78 Nm (1.3 - 6.9 inch lbs.)





d. Measure turning torque at straight ahead position.
Straight ahead position is a position where stub shaft is turned 2.14 turns (two full turns and 50°) from lock position.
Turning torque at straight ahead position: 0.25 - 1.32 Nm (2.2 - 11.7 inch lbs.) higher than turning torque at 360°.
Maximum turning torque: 1.03 - 1.47 Nm (9.1 - 13.0 inch lbs.)

2. If turning torque is not within specifications, adjust by turning sector shaft adjusting screw.
3. Tighten adjusting screw lock nut with tools.
