Front Suspension Parts
AXLE AND SUSPENSION PARTS
1. Check front axle and front suspension parts for excessive play, cracks, wear or other damage.
a. Shake each front wheel to check for excessive play. If looseness is noted, adjust wheel bearing end play, then check ball joint end play.
b. Make sure that the cotter pin is inserted.
c. Retighten all nuts and bolts to the specified torque.
d. Check front axle and front suspension parts for wear, cracks or other damage.
2. Check shock absorber for oil leakage and other damage.
3. Check suspension ball joint for grease leakage and ball joint dust cover for cracks and other damage.
4. Check upper ball joint for vertical end play. End play is 0.1 - 1.4 mm (0.004 - 0.055 inch) at side frame.
a. Jack up front of vehicle and set the stands.
b. Remove road wheel.
c. Clamp dial indicator onto upper link and place indicator tip on knuckle near upper ball joint.
d. Jack up lower link approximately 20 mm (0.79 inch).
e. Place a pry bar between upper link and upper link spindle.
f. While pushing and releasing pry bar, observe maximum dial indicator value.
g. If upper ball joint movement is beyond specifications, remove and recheck it.
5. Check lower ball joint for vertical end play. End play is 0.1 - 1.3 mm (0.004 - 0.051 inch).
a. Jack up front of vehicle and set the stands at side frame.
b. Clamp dial indicator onto transverse link and place indicator tip on lower edge of brake caliper.
c. Make sure front wheels are straight and brake pedal is depressed.
d. Place a pry bar between transverse link and inner rim of road wheel.
e. While pushing and releasing pry bar, observe maximum dial indicator value.
f. If lower ball joint movement is beyond specifications, remove and recheck it.
