1995-97 TRUCK POOR/NO AUDIO RECEPTION

APPLIED VEHICLE:
1995-97 Truck (D21)

SERVICE INFORMATION

If a Truck exhibits poor or no FM audio reception, the tuner pack on the head unit may have failed due to condensation buildup on the audio head unit. A countermeasure insulation foam is available to block any air flow leak from the HVAC duct and resolve this incident.

NOTE:
To prevent moisture buildup from occurring, install the countermeasure foam on all 1995-97 Trucks where service requires audio head unit removal or replacement for any reason.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Follow the "Audio 1" diagnostic procedure to determine condition of head unit.

2. Remove the audio head unit and the deck pocket per the service manual (section BT; Instrument Panel; removal steps 5-8) to reveal the HVAC unit and duct (see Figure 1).

3. Clean the surface of the HVAC unit (heater box) and duct with a clean shop rag to remove all dust and debris (see Figure 1). Make sure that the surface of the unit is dry before applying foam.

4. Before removing the adhesive backing from the insulation foam, pre-fit the insulation foam (see Figure 2) on the HVAC unit and duct to verify correct position.

5. Peel off the adhesive backing and apply the insulation foam onto the HVAC unit and duct as shown in Figure 3.

6. Confirm that the insulation foam is fully and smoothly adhered to the HVAC unit and duct (Figure 4).

7. Reinstall the audio head unit.
