Brake Pedal Assy: Adjustments

Brake Pedal Adjustment:






MEASUREMENT
Under a force of 490 N (110 lb), with engine running, check brake pedal height from floor panel.

Dimension H: Free height for vehicles with manual transaxle is 209-219 mm (8.23-8.62 inch); automatic transaxle is 212-222 mm (8.35-8.74 inch)

Dimension D: Depressed height is 120 mm (4.72 inch)

Dimensions C1, C2: Clearance between pedal stopper and threaded end of stop lamp switch/Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) brake switch is 0.3-1.0 mm (0.012-0.039 inch)

Dimension A: Pedal free play (at pedal pad) is 4.0-12.0 mm (0.16-0.47 inch)

Dimension A: Pedal free play (at clevis) is 1.0-3.0 mm (0.039-0.118 inch)

ADJUSTMENT
If necessary, adjust brake pedal free height as follows:
1. Loosen lock nut and adjust pedal free height by turning brake booster input rod. Then tighten lock nut. Make sure that the tip of input rod stays inside.
2. Loosen lock nut and adjust clearance C1 and C2 with stop lamp switch and ASCD brake switch (or A/T shift lock switch) respectively. Then tighten lock nuts.
3. Check pedal free play. Make sure that stop lamps go "OFF" when pedal is released.
4. Check brake pedal's depressed height with engine running. If lower than specification, check for leaks, air in system, or damage to components (master cylinder, wheel cylinder, etc.). Then make the necessary repairs.
