DTC P0635: Power Steering Control Circuit

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

- The ECM receives the information about the drive current of the power steering motor from the electric power steering-ECU by the CAN bus line.

DESCRIPTIONS OF MONITOR METHODS

The drive current of the power steering motor is still more than 8A during the specified go/stop operations.

Continuous

Other Monitor (There is no temporary DTC stored in memory for the item monitored below)

- Not applicable
Sensor (The sensor below is determined to be normal)

- Not applicable

Check Conditions

- More than 5 seconds have passed since the engine starting sequence was completed.

- Repeat 10 times or more: drive*1, stop*2.
Drive*1:
- Vehicle speed is more than 50 km/h (31 mph) lasting 4 seconds or more.
Stop*2:
- Vehicle speed is less than 1.5 km/h (1 mph).
Judgement Criterion

- The drive current of the power steering motor is still more than 8A.

FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION

- None

OBD-II DRIVE CYCLE PATTERN

None

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS (The most likely causes for this code to be set are: )

- Electrical power steering system failed.

- Electric power steering-ECU failed.

- ECM failed.

DIAGNOSIS

Required Special Tool:

- MB991958: Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III Sub Assembly)
- MB991824: V.C.I.

- MB991827: USB Cable

- MB991910: Main Harness A

STEP 1. Using scan tool MB991958, read the diagnostic trouble code (DTC).





CAUTION:
To prevent damage to scan tool MB991958, always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK"
(OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool MB991958.

(1)Connect scan tool MB991958 to the data link connector.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3)Read the electric power steering-DTC.
(4)Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.

Q. Is the electric power steering-DTC set?

YES Electrical Power Steering System (EPS).

NO Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Using scan tool MB991958, read the diagnostic trouble code
(DTC).


(1)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.

(2)After the DTC has been deleted, read the DTC again.

(3)Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.

Q. Is DTC P0635 set?

YES Replace the ECM (Refer to, Removal and Installation Removal and Replacement).
NO It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent. How to Cope With Intermittent Malfunctions.
