REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
CAUTION:
- When replacing the engine control module (ECM), do not replace the immobilizer-ECU (WCM) or KOS-ECU at the same time with ECM. When replacing multiple ECUs, always replace only one ECU at a time and complete necessary ID registration using the scan tool. - After the engine control module (ECM) replacement, idling speed may be unstable because the MFI engine learning is not completed. To make it stable, let the system learn the idling. Learning Procedure For Idling In MFI Engine .)
- After the engine control module (ECM) replacement, register a key code using the scan tool How to Perform Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Writing ).
- When the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, save the vehicle identification number and perform the variant coding.
- When the engine control module (ECM) is replaced, the initial learning value of timing chain elongation amount must be stored and written by using the scan tool Timing Chain Maintenance ).
REMOVAL SERVICE POINT
[[A]] BREAK-OFF BOLTS REMOVAL [VEHICLES FOR CANADA]
1. [When using recommended tool screw extractor set (MB992678) or equivalent]
(1) Drill in the break-off bolt a hole deep enough for the tap to stand.
(2) Use recommended tool screw extractor set (MB992678) or equivalent to remove the break-off bolt.
2. [When using the flat-tipped screwdriver]
(1) Apply force towards the direction to loose the bolt by a flat-tipped screwdriver.
(2) Remove the break-off bolt.
INSTALLATION SERVICE POINTS

Tighten until the head of break-off bolt is broken off.
]]B[[ INITIALIZATION OPERATION
Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" and then to "LOCK" (OFF) position and hold it for at least 10 seconds.
