Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Testing and Inspection

INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR CHECK

Intake air temperature sensor 1





1. Disconnect the mass airflow sensor connector.
2. Measure the resistance between terminal No. 1 and terminal No. 4.
Standard value:

13 - 17 kohms [at -20°C (-4°F)]
5.4 - 6.6 kohms [at 0°C (32°F)]
2.3 - 3.0 kohms [at 20°C (68°F)]
1.0 - 1.5 kohms [at 40°C (104°F)]
0.56 - 0.76 kohms [at 60°C (140°F)]
0.31 - 0.43 kohms [at 80°C (176°F)]
3. If not within specifications, replace the mass airflow sensor.





4. Measure resistance while heating the sensor using a hair dryer.

Normal condition:






5. If the resistance does not decrease as heat increases, replace the mass airflow sensor.

Intake air temperature sensor 2





1. Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor 2 connector.
2. Measure the resistance between terminal No. 1 and terminal No. 2.
Standard value:

13 - 18 kohms [at -20°C (-4°F)]
5.1 - 6.9 kohms [at 0°C (32°F)]
2.0 - 3.0 kohms [at 20°C (68°F)]
0.9 - 1.5 kohms [at 40°C (104°F)]
0.40 - 0.78 kohms [at 60°C (140°F)]
0.23 - 0.42 kohms [at 80°C (176°F)]
3. If not within specifications, replace the intake air temperature sensor 2.





4. Measure resistance while heating the sensor using a hair dryer.

Normal condition:






5. If the resistance does not decrease as heat increases, replace the intake air temperature sensor 2.
