Convertible Top Hydraulic Fluid: Service and Repair
BLEEDING OF THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
Sometimes air can get trapped inside the system, especially when operating the convertible top manually or after one or more components of the system have been changed, or the fluid level has been very low. The system is a closed system and will self bleed in normal use. Sometimes external bleeding is however necessary, especially after work on the hydraulic system. Always check for leaks or faulty parts when confronted with a system in need of bleeding. It is not necessary to change components if air has been found inside the system and no other faults have been determined.
1. Remove the upper pad.
2. Remove the filler plug to the hydraulic pump reservoir.
NOTE:
Fit the hydraulic pump reservoir filler plug for only 2 threads into the hydraulic pump reservoir. This to allow trapped air to escape better to the hydraulic pump reservoir. These pressure peaks and eventual fluid excesses can than be vented to the atmosphere, and so prevent damage to the hydraulic pump reservoir.
3. Make 3 complete cycles and check the function. Make sure that there are no oil leaks.
4. Check during the complete convertible top actuation the fluid level, eventual fill the hydraulic pump reservoir if necessary.
Specified Fluid: MITSUBISHI Genuine fluid part No. 6559A074
5. Install the filler plug to the hydraulic pump reservoir.
6. Install the upper pad.
