Engine Controls - Unstable High Altitude Idle: Overview

No: TSB-11-13-005

DATE: June, 2011

MODEL: 2008-11 Lancer Evolution

SUBJECT:
ECM REPROGRAMMING FOR UNSTABLE IDLE IN HIGH ALTITUDE AREAS

PURPOSE

Some customers in high altitude areas (higher than 4,900 feet/1500m) may report the following after decelerating with the throttle fully closed:

^ briefly higher than normal engine RPM, and/or

^ idle hunting when the clutch pedal is depressed.

This TSB provides a procedure for reprogramming the ECM with new software to correct the condition.

IMPORTANT:
If an affected vehicle has a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated and DTCs are listed in the ECM memory (before reprogramming), diagnose and repair those DTCs per the service manual before reprogramming. DO NOT reprogram the ECM until the reason(s) for other DTCs being set is corrected.
