Body - Roof Moulding Is Loose

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE FOR LOOSE OR REPLACEMENT ROOF MOULDING

This TSB supercedes TSB-06-42A-003, issued June, 2006, to revise affected vehicles and repair procedures. Revised information is indicated by <.

PURPOSE

Due to a modification in the clearcoat process, some affected vehicles may have a loose roof molding. Unless it is damaged or missing, do not replace the molding. Re-secure it using the procedure described in this TSB.

NOTE:
Use this procedure when installing a new molding for any reason.<

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT <

PROCEDURE <

IMPORTANT
ADHESIVE WORKING TIME IS LESS THEN 30 SECONDS! If repairing both roof mouldings, work on one side at a time.

1. Carefully remove the roof molding.

2. Clean the roof gutter with a clean rag dampened with isopropyl alcohol. use 3M Adhesive. Tar and Wax Remover # 03607 (or equivalent) to remove any old material that may be adhered to the 4 attachment locations.





NOTE:
The applicator is packaged with 2 plungers. Use the 1:1 plunger (both shafts of the plunger are equal diameter).

3. Remove any loose dirt and debris from the roof molding adhesive strip.

4. Assemble the applicator gun.

5. When preparation is complete, place the roof molding within easy reach prior to applying the adhesive.

NOTE:
The adhesive has short working (20-30 secs.) and curing (60 secs.) times.





6. Apply 3M Duramix 04747 2-part adhesive (or equivalent) to four locations in the roof gutter as indicated in the photo.

a. Circle approximately 30 mm (1.2") diameter.

b. Strip approximately 100 mm (4") long.

NOTE:
Apply adhesive to the bottom of the inner channel and up the inner side of the roof flange.





7. Reinstall the roof molding. The front of the molding must be placed UNDER the windshield molding as indicated by the circle in the illustration. Apply firm pressure for 60 seconds to properly seat the molding.

8. If any adhesive is visible along the edges of the molding, remove it with 3M Adhesive, Tar and Wax Remover #03607 (or equivalent).

9. Allow to set for one hour.

10. Advise the customer not to wash the vehicle for at least 24 hours.
