REFRIGERANT GAS LEAK AT A/C COMPRESSOR
SEAL
PURPOSE
On some affected vehicles, refrigerant gas may leak from the front shaft seal of the A/C compressor, causing decreased A/C cooling performance. This TSB provides instructions to replace the A/C compressor with a new, improved part, using the applicable part number from the Parts Information section of this bulletin.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
2008-10 Outlander built prior to May 21, 2010
2009-10 Lancer, Lancer Sportback built prior to May 20, 2010
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Refer to the label on the vehicle's A/C compressor and confirm it is NOT a new part number. See the chart in the Parts Information section of this TSB for new part numbers.
If the vehicle is equipped with a part number listed in the chart, this TSB does not apply. Conduct further diagnosis.
2. Perform a leak test before replacement to verify leak location. Do not replace the A/C compressor if a refrigerant leak at the front shaft seal cannot be verified.
3. Refer to Group 55 - Heater, Ventilation and Air Conditioning in the service manual and replace the A/C compressor with a redesigned part.
