SUBJECT:
ECM REPROGRAMMING FOR ENGINE SPEED RETURNS TO IDLE SLOWLY
This TSB supercedes TSB-08-13-005, issued April, 2008, to provide revised software for the described condition and include all 2008 model year vehicles. Revised information is shown with a <.
PURPOSE
Customers of some affected vehicles may complain that the engine speed drops very slowly when depressing the clutch pedal after repeatedly depressing and releasing the accelerator pedal (revving the engine). The condition is most commonly reported by drivers with a spirited driving style, especially in city driving (e.g. stoplight to stoplight). The condition is due to parameters within the ECM that control engine speed to protect the catalytic convertor when it is very hot.
This TSB advises technicians to reprogram the ECM with new software to correct the parameters controlling engine speed and the rate at which it returns to idle when a vehicle is not in motion.
