Engine Controls - Engine Hesitation/Stalling When Cold: Overview

No: TSB-09-13-001

Date: February, 2009

Model: 2008 Lancer

Subject:
ECM REPROGRAMMING FOR THROTTLE HESITATION AND ENGINE STALLS WHEN COLD

PURPOSE

Customers of some California specification 2008MY Lancers with CVT, may complain of a throttle hesitation or engine stalling just after a cold engine start. A parameter in the ECM for cold air-fuel ratio was set leaner when cold in order to meet strict emission regulation requirements. This setting could present itself as a throttle hesitation due to a lack of fuel injection volume when first accelerating.

This Technical Service Bulletin advises the steps to reprogram the ECM with new parameters to repair the condition.
