Engine Controls - Slight Hesitation When Accelerating: Overview
No.: TSB-08-13-011Date: May, 2008
Model:
2008 Lancer Evolution
SUBJECT:
ENGINE CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAMMING FOR SLIGHT HESITATION ABOVE 5,000 RPM
PURPOSE
Customers of some affected vehicles may experience a slight hesitation when accelerating at engine speeds above 5,000 RPM. The condition is due to the air fuel mixture becoming too rich during higher engine speed.
This Technical Service Bulletin advises the steps to reprogram the ECM with new software which will correct the air/fuel ratio during certain operating parameters.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
2008 Lancer Evolution equipped with 5 speed manual transmission only built prior to April 10, 2008.
REQUIRED OPERATIONS
The following equipment is needed to reprogram the ECM.
^ VCI (Vehicle Communication Interface) - MB991824
^ Laptop computer with A/C power adaptor - 520924, or MIT547708
^ MUT-III main harness 'A' (blue connector at the DLC end) - MB991910
^ USB 2.0 cable - MB991827
^ "Engine Compartment/Control Module" labels - p/n MSSF024G00
^ MEDIC-II Download at M220 or higher.
If an affected vehicle has a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated and DTCs listed in the ECM memory (before reprogramming), follow diagnostic instructions for the applicable DTCs per the service manual information. Do not reprogram the ECM until the reason for DTCs being set is corrected.
NOTE:
The software for this reflash is the same as the software for TSB-08-13-006REVII which reprograms the ECM to correct for DTC P1320 in memory. THE ECM WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO REPROGRAM A SECOND TIME with the same software. Check the underside of the hood for a reprogramming label. If the ROM ID # matches the New Software No. listed in the chart shown above, then the EMC's software is to the latest specification and reprogramming is not necessary.
