Removal and Installation Steps

Removal Steps

NOTE:
The vehicle will be raised on a lift during this procedure. Position the vehicle prior to beginning cable replacement.

1. Release the hood latch by pulling the hood lock release lever located at the left outer kick panel.

NOTE:
If you are unable to release the hood as described, detach the cable end at the release lever. Pull the cable end with pliers to release the hood. If you still have difficulty, have someone press down on the hood in the area of the latch while you pull the cable with pliers.

CAUTION
TAKE CARE TO NOT DENT THE HOOD.

2. Remove the driver's side scuff plate trim.

3. Remove the driver's side outer kick panel trim. Note that it is secured with a plastic nut near the foot rest (see above).

4. Remove the instrument panel lower cover. Release 4 center pin retaining clips and set the cover aside.

5. Remove two screws and remove the hood latch release lever.

6. Release the cable end from the release lever. Detach the cable housing from its anchor (see 6 above).

7. Follow the cable up under the dash and remove the cable from the cable guide (see 7 above).

8. Raise the hood and support it using the hood support rod.

9. Remove the air intake and core support trim.

10. Take note of the cable routing to make cable installation easier.

11. Release the cable end from the latch mechanism.

12. Detach the cable housing from its anchor by squeezing the tangs on the retaining clip and pushing the cable to the right and then towards the engine.

13. Push the cable end through the hole in the radiator core support so that it is in the engine compartment.

14. Release the black wiring harness support clip from the core support.

15. Detach the cable from the black wiring harness support clip.

16. Release the white cable support clip and push it free. Detach the clip from the cable as it will be reused.

17. Raise the vehicle on a lift.

NOTE:
Raise the vehicle just high enough to remove the wheel and work comfortably. When removing the cable through the wheel opening, it can get caught on interior parts and you will have to reach inside to free it before continuing.

18. Remove the driver's side front wheel.

19. Remove the driver's side front splash shield. Remove 15 clips, 2 bolts and 1 screw. There are 3 types of clips. Take note of the positions of the different clips when removing them.

21. CAREFULLY pull the cable so the latch end is in the wheel opening.

22. Follow the cable to the grommet where it enters the vehicle's interior. Release the grommet and pull the cable towards you. You may need to re-enter the vehicle to release the cable if it snags on interior components.

23. Remove the hood release cable from the vehicle.

Installation Steps

Installation steps are largely the reverse of removal steps.

1. Insert the new cable (p/n 5910A065) through the opening and seat the grommet into the hole.

2. Install the cable into the support clip in the wheel opening.

3. Route the cable into the engine compartment (see 3 above).

4. Install the white cable retaining clip to the cable at the yellow index marks on and secure it to the body from the wheel opening side (see 4 above).

5. Lower the vehicle enough to allow you to work in the engine compartment. Follow the general cable routing shown as a white line in the illustration on the left (above). The cable must be routed through the hole in the vertical panel behind and inboard of the LH headlamp as indicated.

6. Route the cable from the engine compartment through the hole in the core support, left of the latch.

7. Snap the cable into its retainer on the latch and attach the cable end to the latch mechanism.

8. Reinstall the cable to the black wiring harness retaining clip and secure the cable to the underside of the core support.

9. Inside the vehicle, route the cable through the cable guide as shown.

10. Attach the cable end to the release lever.

11. Secure the release lever assembly to the vehicle with 2 screws.

12. Close the hood. Using normal effort to pull the release lever, confirm the hood latch releases easily and latches properly when the hood is closed.

13. Reinstall the driver's side outer kick panel trim.

14. Reinstall the driver's side scuff plate trim.

15. Reinstall the driver's side front splash shield. Reinstall all retaining clips and fasteners. Torque the bolt indicated to 4.5 +/- 1.5 Nm (40 +/- 13 in/lb).

16. Reinstall the left front wheel.

17. Lower the vehicle to the ground. Torque the wheel nuts to 98 + 10 Nm (73 +/- 7 ft/lb).

18. Re-install the core support trim using three clips.

19. Insert the air intake into the air cleaner box and secure it with two clips.
