Charging System - Alternator Heat Protector Installation

SUBJECT:
ALTERNATOR HEAT PROTECTOR INSTALLATION
PURPOSE
When replacing the alternator on affected vehicles, a heat protector should be installed to reduce the possibility of alternator overheating. Heat protectors are supplied separately and must be secured to the alternator prior to installation. See the Parts Information Section later in this TSB for required part numbers.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
2004-2012 Galant with 4G69 built prior to May 29, 2012 (VIN 4A32B2FF5CE023773)
PROCEDURE
1. Record the customer's audio presets on the repair order.
2. Disconnect the battery.
3. Refer to Group 16 - Engine Electrical of the applicable service manual, and remove the damaged alternator.
4. Secure the heat protector to the new alternator with 3 bolts as shown in the illustration.
5. Refer to Group 16 - Engine Electrical of the applicable service manual, and install the new alternator.
6. Reconnect the battery.
7. Restore the customer's audio presets and set the clock to the correct time.
