WINDSHIELD DEFOGGER OUTLET PANEL SEAL
This bulletin supercedes TSB-11-52A-001, issued March, 2011, to add a low VOC (volatile organic compound) adhesive for use in California. It also supersedes TIN-11-52A-001, issued May 2011, and California dealers should no longer replace the panel for this condition. Changes are indicated by <.
PURPOSE
The appearance of the air outlet panel seal at the base of the windshield may be out of position on some affected vehicles. This TSB provides a repair procedure to remove repair and reinstall the instrument panel (I/P) air outlet panel without removing the I/P or damaging existing parts.

PROCEDURE
REMOVAL
NOTE:
Always repair both the short and long sections of the "D" shaped seal at the same time.
Remove the windshield air outlet panel from the instrument panel as follows:.
1. Insert a nylon trim stick between the I/P and the rear edge of the air outlet panel at one end.
CAUTION
Care should be taken to avoid damage to the panel or other parts.
2. Work your way across the panel lifting at the five clip locations and elevate the rear edge of the panel.
3. When the rear edge of the outlet panel is elevated the clips will be released and the panel should be in the position shown.
NOTE:
Vehicles produced before approximately mid-March 2007 have 6 clips. Newer vehicles have 4 clips.
4. Verify all clip attachment points are disengaged and remove the panel from the vehicle.
REPAIR
Removal of the long section of the "D" Shaped Rubber Seal
1. Starting on the LH side of the panel lift approximately one inch (1", 25mm) of the "D" shaped seal off of the panel as shown below (CAREFULLY use a razor knife if necessary).
2. Grasp the loose tape and loose "D" shaped rubber seal and pull both together at the same rate using the method shown until the "D" shaped rubber seal and tape are completely removed from the panel.
If done in this manner, there is little or no adhesive residue left behind.
CAUTION
Care should be taken to avoid damage to the garnish or other parts.
3. Slowly and gently peel the tape from the "D" shaped rubber seal until the tape is completely removed.
4. Clean any remaining adhesive on the outlet panel and "D" shaped seal with a general purpose adhesive remover.
!! IMPORTANT!!
Adhesive remover should be tested on the rear side of the panel and not used if it damages the material.
Adhesive remover should be applied to a rag and then wiped on ONLY the affected areas of the panel. Do not spray or wipe solvent on the visible surfaces of the panel
5. Insure all tape and adhesive residue are cleaned from the "D" shaped seal.
6. Using a small brush apply 4693H Plastic adhesive (or equivalent) to the "D" shaped rubber seal area in place of the tape that was removed. Follow adhesive application instructions on the container.
NOTE:
Too much adhesive will result in an unsatisfactory appearance.
7. Apply adhesive to the panel in the area indicated in red in the photo. Do not apply adhesive to the top half of the seal area.
8. Align the Carefully re-attach the "D" shaped seal to the panel. Allow the adhesive to cure following instructions listed on the adhesive container.
9. Repeat the procedure for the short "D" shaped rubber seal.
INSTALLATION
1. Verify the clips are positioned on the outlet panel as shown. Clips are located at the LH side of the panel and additional clips are located at the RH side. Vehicles built before approximately mid-March 2007 will have 6 clips and vehicles produced after this date will have 4 clips.
2. Align the panel using the clips and insert the LH side first then the RH side.
3. Snap the center area of the panel into position.
4. Confirm proper fit of the panel.
NOTE:
The force required to snap in the center area of the outlet panel is greater than the outer areas.
