Inspection Procedure 4

INSPECTION PROCEDURE 4: The Daytime/nighttime Display Mode On Multi-center Display Does Not Switch.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
- The multi-center display may be defective
- The ETACS-ECU may be defective

DIAGNOSIS

Required Special Tools:
- MB991958: Scan Tool (M.U.T.-III Sub Assembly)
- MB991824: V.C.I.
- MB991827: M.U.T.-III USB Cable
- MB991910: M.U.T.-III Main Harness A

STEP 1. Using scan tool MB991958, diagnose the CAN bus line.

CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool MB991958, always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool MB991958.




1. Connect scan tool MB991958. Refer to "How to connect SWS monitor." How to Connect SWS Monitor
2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
3. Diagnose the CAN bus line.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.

Q: Is the CAN bus line found to be normal?

YES : Go to Step 2.

NO : Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to Controller Area Network (CAN), Diagnosis).

STEP 2. Check that the nighttime brightness is set dimmer than the daytime brightness.

Q: Is the nighttime brightness set dimmer than the daytime brightness?

YES : Go to Step 3.

NO : Change the nighttime brightness setting. Check that the switching of daytime/nighttime display mode on multi-center display is performed.

STEP 3. Check that the combination meter brightness is reduced when the taillight is illuminated.

Q: Is the combination meter brightness reduced when the taillight is illuminated?

YES : Replace the multi-center display. Check that the switching of daytime/nighttime display mode on multi-center display is performed.

NO : Replace the ETACS-ECU. Check that the switching of daytime/nighttime display mode on multi-center display is performed.
