Engine Controls - MIL ON/DTC P0401 Set In ECM: Overview

No: TSB-10-13-006

DATE: June, 2010

MODEL: 2007 Galant

SUBJECT:
PCM REPROGRAMMING FOR P0401 - EGR FLOW INSUFFICIENT DETECTED

PURPOSE

Some affected vehicles may display an illuminated Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and set DTC P0401 in the PCM for insufficient EGR flow, due to carbon build up on the EGR valve. This TSB provides instructions to reprogram the PCM with new parameters that change the EGR valve judgment criteria, and increase EGR flow if reduced flow is detected.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
2007 Galant with 2.4L 4 cylinder engine

REQUIRED OPERATIONS

The following equipment is needed to reprogram the PCM.

^ VCI (Vehicle Communication Interface) - MB991824

^ Laptop computer with A/C power adaptor - 520924, or MIT547708.

^ MUT-III main harness 'A' (blue connector at the DLC end) - MB991910.

^ USB 2.0 cable - MB991827.

^ "Engine Compartment/Control Module" labels - p/n MSSF024G00.

^ MEDIC-II Download at M367 or higher.

If an affected vehicle has a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illuminated and DTCs other than described above are listed in the ECM memory (before reprogramming), follow diagnostic instructions for the applicable DTCs per the service manual information. Do not reprogram the ECM until the reason for other DTCs being set is corrected.
