PROCEDURE
CAUTION
BATTERY VOLTAGE (AS MEASURED AT THE BATTERY POSTS WITHOUT ELECTRICAL LOAD) MUST BE 12.4V OR HIGHER IN ORDER TO REPROGRAM THE PCM.
IMPORTANT
Verify whether the vehicle is K-Line Flash or CAN-Flash. Refer to the "Reprogramming System Identification" chart on the Service Tech Resources page on the Mitsubishi Dealer Link. The procedure for PCM reprogramming on CAN-Flash vehicles is different than K-Line Flash vehicles. Be sure 10 follow the correct reprogramming instructions far the vehicle being repaired.
1. Check the underside of the hood to verify that there is no label previously installed to indicate that this TSB reprogramming has already been done.
2. Using the MUT-III, verify that the vehicle's ECU part number is listed in the table in Step 9. If the Software P/N is the same as or higher than the Software PIN in the table, the PCM has already been reprogrammed for this concern. Do not continue with this bulletin procedure. Refer to Group 13 in the appropriate service manual to diagnose the DTC.
3. Use the MUT-III to erase all DTCs set in the PCM.
4. MEDIC-II ONLY. Verify that your MEDIC-II is at download M121 or higher.
NOTE:
Dealers using MEDIC-II will not receive a reflash CD. The reflash data will be sent electronically.
a. If the download is M121 or higher, go to step 6.
b. If the download version is less than M121, force a download to the MEDIC-II as follows:
a. On the MEDIC-II main screen, click on "Maintenance".
b. Click on "Download".
5. Scan Tool Viewer (STV) ONLY. Verify that your MUT-III is at STV Version 14 or higher, and that it has the most current version of the reprogramming database:
a. Select "Special Function", then select "ECU Reprogramming."
b. Select "Database File Display". The database version is displayed in the top right corner of the screen. Make sure the database version is N06081 or greater.
c. If the database version is N06081 or greater, reprogram the PCM as described in Step 7 for CAN-FLASH VEHICLES ONLY or Step 8 for K-LINE FLASH VEHICLES ONLY.
d. If the database version is less than N06081, you must transfer the new reprogramming data from the Reflash Update CD 8/06 to the MUT-III hard drive as follows:
a. Install Reflash Update CD 8106 into the PC's DVD-ROM drive.
b. Follow the instructions on the screen. The system will automatically transfer the reprogramming data onto the PC's hard drive.
6. MEDIC-II and STV Transfer the reprogramming data from the MEDIC-II laptop to the memory card as follows (Use the port on the left side of the MEDIC-II laptop):
a. Select the "MUT-III STV" button.
b. Select "Special function".
c. Select "ECU Reprogramming".
d. Select "Memory Card Transfer".
When the memory card data transfer is complete, remove the memory card from the laptop and install it in the VCI. Then go to Step 7 for CAN-FLASH VEHICLES ONLY or Step 8 FOR K-LINE FLASH VEHICLES.
