Interior - Sunroof Sun Shade Replacement

SUNROOF SUNSHADE REPLACEMENT

PURPOSE





The sunroof sunshade is now available as a separate service part (see the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin). This bulletin provides sunshade replacement procedures for cases where only the sunshade requires replacement.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

2006-on Eclipse models equipped with sunroof

PROCEDURE

NOTE:
Perform this procedure with the sunroof glass in the completely closed position.

1. Remove the rear seat bottom cushion.

2. Remove the following interior trims:

a. Remove the front, center, and rear pillar trims on both right and left sides. The front and center pillar trims are secured with 10 mm bolts underneath the small oval trim pieces. Remove the front seat belt upper mounting at the center pillar.

b. Remove the inner scuff plate trim.

c. Remove the lower rear quarter trim. Do not remove the rear seat belts, but fully extend them to allow rear quarter trim removal.

d. To permit sufficient work area during this procedure, store the removed trims in the rear hatch area, and cover them to protect from damage.





3. Remove the sunvisors (two 125 Torx bolts) and sunvisor holders. Be sure the sunvisor light connectors remain accessible.





4. Remove the two rear headliner clips.

5. Remove the sunroof switch bezel.

6. Remove the sunroof trim (welt).

CAUTION
Use care to prevent soiling the headliner during removal.

7. Lower the headliner (suspended with the electrical harnesses still connected). It is not necessary to remove it from the vehicle. Do not disconnect or remove the electrical harnesses from the headliner.

8. lower the rear of the sunroof assembly:





a. Loosen the four 10 mm front sunroof nuts.

b. Remove the two 10 mm center and two 10 mm rear sunroof nuts.





9. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, remove the two sunshade spring-loaded stop clips at the rear of the sunroof. Pry from the top of the clip, then the middle.

CAUTION
Use care to prevent damaging the rear window washer hose during sunshade removal.

10. Note the location of the front and rear sunshades in the tracks. Remove the sunshades as follows:

a. Gently separate the front and rear sunshades, then push the rear sunshade toward the rear. Note that the larger lip faces rearward. Remove it from the track.

b. Gently push the front sunshade toward the rear and remove it from the track.

11. Install the new front and rear sunshades listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin:





a. Install the front sunshade into the middle track. Be sure that the handle is positioned forward.

b. Install the rear sunshade into the upper track. Position with the larger lip facing rearward.

c. Push the sunshades together and confirm that they slide correctly.

12. Reinstall the sunshade stop clips. Replace the clip if it is bent or damaged.

13. Reinstall the sunroof center and rear nuts. l4lighten the sunroof assembly front nuts. 15.Reinstall the headliner:

a. Reinstall the two rear headliner clips.

b. Reinstall the sunroof switch bezel, positioned with the single clip facing forward.





c. Reconnect the sunvisor lamp connectors. Then reinstall the sunvisors and their holders. Confirm that the sunvisors slide properly.

d. Be sure that the headliner is installed under the rear glass weatherstrip.

e. Reinstall the sunroof trim (welt).

16. Reinstall the interior trims. Replace any damaged or missing trim clips.

a. Torque the front seat belt upper mountings to 44 +/- 10 Nm (33 +/- ft/lbs).

b. When installing the trims (especially the rear quarter trim), be sure the trim clips are correctly aligned before installation.

17. Reinstall the rear seat cushion.
