Body - Convertible Top Drive Link Replacement

No.: TSB-06-42A-004

DATE: May, 2006

MODEL: 2007 Eclipse Spyder

SUBJECT:
TOPSTACK DRIVE LINK REPLACEMENT

PURPOSE

If the convertible top lifts on only one side, the topstack outer drive link on one side of the top may be damaged. The splined insert inside the drive link may have separated, causing the link to be inoperative.

To eliminate this condition, replace the affected outer drive link as described in this bulletin. If the outer drive link on one side is damaged, replace the outer drive link on BOTH SIDES.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
2007 Eclipse Spyder

PROCEDURE

1. Position the topstack with the tonneau cover and the # 5 bow in the up position.

2. On the affected side, open the Velcro strap to remove the headliner from the side rail and from the rear of the # 5 and # 4 bow links.

3. Remove the lower portion of the weatherstrip from the plastic holder as shown.

4. Detach the # 5 bow lock cylinder from the bow at the C-clip (top of cylinder) and the ball socket (bottom of cylinder). Leave the hydraulic lines attached. Do not remove the cylinder.

5. Remove the inner drive link C-clip.

6. Remove the outer drive link C-clip.

7. Remove the three T40 Torx bolts securing the drive links to the side rail.

8. Remove the inner drive link.

9. Loosen the two rotary actuator mounting bolts. Move the actuator away from the vehicle body to allow clearance for outer drive link removal.

If working on the left side of the vehicle, use care to prevent damaging the up/down position switch wiring.

10. Lift the topstack upward slightly to remove the outer drive link.

11. Transfer the plastic weatherstrip bracket from the old outer drive link to the new part. Then reinstall the bracket onto the new part, using the original self-tapping screws (T20 Torx). Torque to 7-12 Nm (5-9 ft/lbs).

12. Reinstall the outer drive link, using the original C-clip.

13. Reinstall the two rotary actuator mounting bolts. Torque to 39-58 Nm (29-43 ft/lbs).

14. Reinstall the inner drive link, using the original C-clip and bolts. Use care to prevent pinching or damaging the side tension cable. Torque the bolts to 26-32 Nm (19-23 ft/lbs).

15. Reinstall the # 5 bow lock cylinder.

NOTE:
To reinstall the ball end of the cylinder, partially remove the retaining clip, then reinstall.

16. Reinstall the weatherstrip.

17. Reattach the Velcro strap.

18. Replace the outer drive link on the other side of the topstack, by repeating this procedure.

19. Confirm proper topstack and power window operation.

20. Record the 7-digit topstack serial number on the repair order. The topstack serial number is located on a label on the # 4 bow link as shown.
