REPAIR PROCEDURES - SUBWOOFER

1. SUBWOOFER GARNISH BUZZ OR RATTLE WHEN PLAYING AUDIO - 2007-2010 Eclipse Spyder built before September 1, 2009.

Customers of some affected vehicles may report a buzz or rattle coming from the subwoofer. Loose contact between the top stack emergency tool and subwoofer speaker garnish may cause a noise when playing audio.

DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR

1. If the buzz or rattle is coming from the subwoofer, remove the speaker garnish and confirm if the noise is eliminated.

2. If the noise is still present with the garnish removed, diagnose for other sources. If none are found, replace the speaker and re-evaluate. If the noise is not present, remove the top stack emergency tool from the speaker garnish.

3. Using the 1mm thick, soft surface felt from Noise Suppression Service Kit MB991752, cut to dimensions shown and apply to top stack emergency tool as shown in the following photos.

4. Install the tool into the speaker garnish and install the speaker
garnish and re-evaluate.

2. SUBWOOFER BUZZ OR RATTLE WHEN PLAYING AUDIO - 2006 and later Eclipse

Customers of some affected vehicles may report a buzz or rattle coming from the subwoofer. The cause may be the subwoofer housing contacting the rear quarter trim.

DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR

1. If the buzz or rattle noise can be stopped by sliding a felt pad from the BSR kit between the subwoofer and the quarter trim, remove the subwoofer.

2. Cut 2 pieces of soft surface felt 110mm long x 55mm wide x 2mm thick. The felt is available in Noise Suppression Service Kit MB991752.

3. Place the pads on top of the existing pads as shown below.

4. Reinstall subwoofer.

5. Confirm the buzz/rattle is eliminated.

REPAIR PROCEDURES - FRONT DOOR BUZZ OR RATTLE NOISE

Customers of some affected vehicles may report a buzz or rattle from a door panel when playing audio. There are non-speaker related noises to consider during diagnosis. The noise may be caused by vibration of the door top demister garnish or the door lock and release cables. In all cases, diagnose these areas before considering the speaker.

1. DOOR TOP DEMISTER GARNISH BUZZ - 2007 and later Eclipse and Eclipse Spyder built prior to 2/1/2007.

Customers of some affected vehicles may notice a buzz or rattle from the upper area of the front door. Contact between the demister duct and the duct bezel may cause the BSR.

DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR

1. Apply pressure to the garnish. if the noise is eliminated, remove the garnish and confirm the noise is not present when playing audio.

2. Cut 6 pieces of soft felt with adhesive backing 10mm X 10mm X 1mm and apply the the 3 bezel as shown in photo. The felt is available in Noise Suppression Service Kit MB991752.

NOTE:
Pads should be aligned with the top of the garnish retaining tab.

3. Reinstall the demister bezel to the door trim.

4. Confirm the noise is eliminated.

2. Door Lock cable / Door Lock handle cable buzz or rattle noise - 2006 and later Eclipse, 2007 and later Eclipse Spyder.

Customers of some affected vehicles may report a buzz or rattle at the left or right side door. The cause of this may be due to the door lock cable and door handle cable contacting the door regulator assembly.

DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR

1. Remove door trim panel and listen for noise when playing audio.

a. If the same noise is present, push on the door cables.

b. If the noise is eliminated by pushing on the cables, or if the noise disappears when the door trim is removed, add padding to each cable as follows.

2. Cut 4 pieces of 10mm thick urethane foam pad, 130mm long x 35mm wide with adhesive backing. The pad is available in Noise Suppression Service Kit MB991752.

3. Clean the areas of both cables where the pads will be attached with isopropyl alcohol. Wrap pads around each cable, one pad on either side of the existing padding (see below) so the material overlaps itself.

4. Reinstall door trim panel.

5. Confirm the noise is eliminated.

3. FRONT DOOR SPEAKER BUZZ OR RATTLE NOISE - 2006 and later Eclipse, 2007 and later Eclipse Spyder

Customers of some affected vehicles may report a buzz or rattle from the left or right door speaker when playing audio. Over time, the speaker's contact with the speaker housing may have loosened. The looseness allows the speaker to vibrate against the housing.

DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR

1. if the buzz or rattle noise is suspected to be coming from the door speaker, remove the door trim panel.

2. Confirm that the four speaker mounting screws (indicated by arrows) are tight, and check if the noise is eliminated. Torque spec for the fasteners is 14 +/- 4 in/lb

a. If the noise is not eliminated, dismount the speaker and hold it in your hand. If the noise is still present in the speaker, replace the speaker.

2b. If there is no noise from the dismounted speaker, cut 8 pieces of soft surface felt with adhesive backing 5mm x 30mm x 1mm and apply 2 at each attachment point as shown in the following photos. The felt is available in Noise Suppression Service Kit MB991752.

3. Reinstall the speaker into the speaker bracket making sure all mounting screws are tight.

4. Confirm the audio noise is eliminated.

5. Reinstall the door trim panel to the vehicle.

6. Re-confirm there is no audio related noise.
