SUBJECT
IMMOBILIZER ECU & PCM REPLACEMENT
Immobilizer ECU & PCM Replacement - All 2000 & 2001 and Later Models with Immobilizer.
The criteria for Immobilizer ECU and/or PCM replacement changed from model year 2000 to 2001:
^ 2000 Models - When replacing the PCM, the Immobilizer ECU must always be replaced and the keys re-registered.
^ 2001 and Later Models - On all models except early production 2001 Eclipse Spyder (see note below), it is not necessary to replace the Immobilizer ECU when replacing the PCM, although all keys must be re-registered.
NOTE: For 2001 Eclipse Spyder Only:
^ If the vehicle's production date is early July 2000 or earlier, the 5th, 6th, & 7th digits of the VIN are E35 or E55, and the fuel cap is the screw on type, treat this vehicle like it is a 2000 model which would require Immobilizer ECU replacement when the PCM is replaced.
^ If the vehicle was produced after early July, the 5th, 6th, & 7th digits of the VIN are E45 or E85, and the fuel cap is the quarter-turn type, the Immobilizer ECU does not require replacement when installing a new PCM.
For all 2000-on models with immobilizer:
The Immobilizer ECU can always be replaced without having to replace the PCM, although all keys must be re-registered.
