Engine Controls - MIL ON/Multiple DTC's Set
No: TSB-05-13-010DATE: October 10,2005
SUBJECT : PCM REPROGRAMMING FOR DTC P0300/P0303, P0116, P0131/P0151, P0133/P0153, AND P2100
MODEL: See below
PURPOSE
Incorrect PCM software parameters may cause the MIL to turn on and set the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes:
2006 Eclipse 3.8L - P0300 and/or P0303 (Misfire Detected)
2006 Eclipse 3.8L and 2.4L - P0116 (ECT Circuit Problem) and P0131/P0151 (Heated Oxygen Sensor Low Voltage)
2005 Galant - P2100 (Throttle Actuator Control Motor Circuit Open)
2006 Galant - P0131/P0151 (Heated Oxygen Sensor Low Voltage)
2004.5 Endeavor - P0133/P0153 (Heated Oxygen Sensor Slow Response)
2005 Endeavor - P0133/P0153 (Heated Oxygen Sensor Slow Response) and P2100 (Throttle Actuator Control Motor Circuit Open)
2006 Endeavor - P0131/P0151 (Heated Oxygen Sensor Low Voltage)
To eliminate the above conditions, reprogram the PCM as described in this bulletin.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
2004.5-2006 Endeavor equipped with 3.8L V6 engine
2005-2006 Galant equipped with 3.8L V6 engine or 2.4L engine
2006 Eclipse equipped with 3.8L V6 engine or 2.4L engine
PROCEDURE
CAUTION !
BATTERY VOLTAGE (AS MEASURED AT THE BATTERY POSTS WITHOUT ELECTRICAL LOAD) MUST BE 12.4V OR HIGHER IN ORDER TO REPROGRAM THE PCM.
The following is required for reprogramming for this concern:
-MUT-III Scan Tool and VCI
-MUT-III / STV Reflash Update CD 10/05 or later
-"Engine Compartment/Control Module" Labels p/n MSSF-024G-00
IMPORTANT: Note whether the vehicle is K-Line Flash or CANFlash:
1.Check the underside of the hood to verify that there is no label previously installed to indicate that this TSB reprogramming has already been done.
2.CAN-Flash Vehicles Only: In the MUT-III System Select menu, click on the car symbol at the bottom of the screen.
Select VIN. Then type in the VIN.
3.Using the MUT-III, verify that the vehicle's PCM part number is listed in the table in Step 10. If it is the same as or higher than the ROM ID or Software P/N in the table, the PCM has already been reprogrammed for this concern.
4.Use the MUT-III to erase all DTCs set in the PCM.
5.Verify that your MUT-III is at STV Version 12.1, and that it has the most current version of the reprogramming database.
a.Select "Special Function", then select "ECU Reprogramming."
b.Select "Database File Display". The database version is displayed in the top right corner of the screen. Make sure the database version is N05091 or greater.
c.If the database version is less than N05091, go to Step 6.
d.If the database version is N05091 or greater, go to Step 8 (K-Line flash vehicles) or go to Step 9 (CAN-flash vehicles).
NOTE: The procedure for PCM reprogramming on CAN-Flash vehicles is different than K-Line flash vehicles. Be sure to follow the appropriate reprogramming instructions for the vehicle.
6.Turn the ignition key to OFF and disconnect the MUT-III.
7.Install Reflash Update CD 10/05 in the MUT-III laptop. Follow the CD installation instructions.
8.K-LINE FLASH VEHICLES ONLY:
a.Transfer the reprogramming data from the MUT-III laptop to the memory card. (Use the port on the left side of the MUT-III laptop.) Select ECU Reprogramming, then Memory Card Transfer. A status bar will display while the data is loading into the memory card.
b.When the memory card data transfer is complete, remove the memory card from the laptop and install it in the VCI.
c.Connect the VCI to the vehicle.
d.DISCONNECT THE MUT-III LAPTOP.
CAUTION !
DO NOT DISTURB THE HARNESS CABLES OR CONNECTIONS. INTERRUPTION DURING THE PROGRAMMING PROCESS COULD CAUSE THE PCM TO LOSE DATA OR PREVENT FUTURE PCM REPROGRAMMING.
e.Reprogram the PCM, using "Automatic reprogramming" on the VCI. It will take up to 20 minutes to complete the reprogramming. If the message "ECU at Current Level of VCI" appears, the PCM did not reprogram. Verify that the ROM ID is the same as the ROM ID listed in the table in Step 9.
- If the ROM ID is the same or higher than the ROM ID in the table, the PCM has already been reprogrammed for this concern. Do not continue with this reprogramming procedure.
- If it is not, verify that the correct database update is in the MUT-III. On K-Line vehicles, verify the correct database was transferred to the memory card, and that the memory card is properly installed in the VCI.
9.CAN-FLASH VEHICLES ONLY:
IMPORTANT: When reprogramming a CAN-Flash vehicle, the VCI and MUTIII laptop must be connected. DO NOT use VCI Stand-alone on CAN-Flash vehicles.
a.Connect the VCI to the vehicle. DO NOT DISCONNECT LAPTOP.
b.Reprogram the PCM, using "Automatic reprogramming (CAN)".
CAUTION !
NOTE: The VIN should have already been input into the MUT-III in Step 2. Using an incorrect VIN will cause a reprogramming data search error.
DO NOT DISTURB THE HARNESS CABLES OR CONNECTIONS. INTERRUPTION DURING THE PROGRAMMING PROCESS COULD CAUSE THE PCM TO LOSE DATA OR PREVENT FUTURE PCM REPROGRAMMING.
c.Select MFI and click on the check mark.
d.The CAN database screen will display, if the appropriate flash data is found. (If more than one row is displayed in the table, select the appropriate ECU part number.) Click on the check mark. It will take up to 10 minutes to complete the reprogramming.
e.If the PCM is already reprogrammed for this concern, this screen will display. Do not continue with this reprogramming procedure.
f.This message will display when the reprogramming is successfully completed.
10.ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES: The following information will display after reprogramming. Note this information. Verify that the new Hardware P/N (CANflash vehicles) or PCM Part No. (K-Line flash vehicles), and the Software P/N (CAN-flash vehicles) or ROM ID (K-Line flash vehicles) are the same as those listed.
11.Turn the ignition switch to OFF. Disconnect the MUT-III from the vehicle. Wait at least 10 seconds, then start the engine to verify proper operation.
12.Using a ball-point pen, enter the appropriate PCM part number, vendor number, ROM ID, this TSB number (TSB-05-13-010), your dealer code, and the current date on the Engine Compartment and Control Module Label (part no. MSSF-024G-00).
13.Carefully remove all dirt and oil from a vacant area near the VECI label on the underside of the hood, and affix the Engine Compartment label.
14.Affix the Control Module Label to the PCM.
