CIRCUIT OPERATION
The ETACS-ECU operates the dome light according to the following signals:
- Ignition switch (IG1): ON or OFF
- Key reminder switch: ON or OFF
- Front door switch: ON or OFF
- Driver's door lock actuator switch: LOCK or UNLOCK
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)
Is the dome light does not flash normally, a burned-out dome light bulb, the input circuits from the switches described in "CIRCUIT OPERATION", the power supply line to the switches or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.
TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS
- The key reminder switch may be defective
- The door switch may be defective
- The driver's door lock actuator switch may be defective
- The dome light may be defective
- The ETACS-ECU may be defective
- The wiring harness or connectors may have loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector
DIAGNOSIS
Required Special Tools:
- MB991223: Harness Set
- MB991958: Scan Tool (MUT-III Sub Assembly)
- MB991824: Vehicles communication interface (V.C.I.)
- MB991827: MUT-III USB cable

STEP 1. Verify which of the dome light, the luggage compartment light
Q: Which of the dome light, the luggage compartment light
dome light does not illuminate normally: Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Check dome light connectors D-04
Q: Are dome light connector D-04
YES: Go to Step 3.
NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. Verify that the dome light illuminates normally.
STEP 3. Verify the dome light bulb.
Q: Is the dome light bulb in good condition?
YES: Go to Step 4.
NO: Replace the bulb. Verify that the dome light illuminates normally.
STEP 4. Check the battery power supply circuit to the front dome light. Measure the voltage at dome light connector D-04
1. Disconnect dome light connector D-04
2. Measure the voltage between terminal 3
- The voltage should equal approximately 12 volts (battery positive voltage).
Q: Is the measured voltage approximately 12 volts (battery positive voltage)?
YES: Go to Step 7.
NO: Go to Step 5.
STEP 5. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-119 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.
Q: Is ETACS-ECU connector C-119 in good condition?
YES: Go to Step 6.
NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. Verify that the dome light illuminates normally.
STEP 6. Check the wiring harness between dome light connector D-04 (terminal 3)
NOTE: Also check junction block connector C-102 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If junction block connector C-102 is damaged, repair or replace the damaged component(s) as described in Harness Connector Inspection.
Q: Is the wiring harness between dome light connector D-04 (terminal 3)
YES: No action is necessary and testing is complete.
NO: The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary. Verify that the dome light illuminates normally.
STEP 7. Check the ground circuit to the dome light. Measure the voltage at dome light connector D-04
1. Disconnect dome light connector D-04
2. Measure the resistance value between 1
- The measured resistance should be 2 ohm or less.
Q: Does the measured resistance value correspond with this range?
YES: Go to Step 9.
NO: Go to Step 8.
STEP 8. Check the wiring harness between dome light connector D-04 (terminal 3)
Q: Is the wiring harness between dome light connector D-04 (terminal 3)
YES: No action is necessary and testing is complete.
NO: The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary. Verify that the dome light illuminates normally.
STEP 9. Check the wiring harness between dome light connector D-04 (terminal 2)
NOTE: Also check junction block connector C-102 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If junction block connector C-102 is damaged, repair or replace the damaged component(s) as described in Harness Connector Inspection.
Q: Is the wiring harness between dome light connector D-04 (terminal 2)
YES: Replace the ETACS-ECU. Check that the dome light illuminates normally.
NO: Repair the wiring harness. Check that the dome light illuminates normally.
STEP 10. Check luggage compartment light connectors F-21 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.
Q: Is luggage compartment light connector F-21 in good condition?
YES: Go to Step 11.
NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. Verify that the luggage compartment lights illuminate normally.
STEP 11. Check the luggage compartment light bulb.
Q: Is the luggage compartment light bulb in good condition?
YES: Go to Step 12.
NO: Replace the bulb. Verify that the luggage compartment lights illuminate normally.
STEP 12. Check the battery power supply circuit to the luggage compartment light. Measure the voltage at luggage compartment light F-21.
1. Disconnect luggage compartment light F-21 and measure the voltage available at the harness side of the connector.
2. Measure the voltage between terminal 1 and ground.
- The voltage should equal approximately 12 volts (battery positive voltage).
Q: Is the measured voltage approximately 12 volts (battery positive voltage)?
YES: Go to Step 15.
NO: Go to Step 13.
STEP 13. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-119 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.
Q: Is ETACS-ECU connector C-119 in good condition?
YES: Go to Step 14.
NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. Verify that the luggage compartment lights illuminate normally.
STEP 14. Check the wiring harness between luggage compartment light connector F-21 (terminal 1) and ETACS-ECU connector C-119 (terminal 6).
NOTE: Also check junction block connector C-101 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If junction block connector C-101 is damaged, repair or replace the damaged component(s) as described in Harness Connector Inspection.
Q: Is the wiring harness between luggage compartment light connector F-21 (terminal 1) and ETACS-ECU connector C-119 (terminal 6) in good condition?
YES: No action is necessary and testing is complete.
NO: The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary. Verify that the luggage compartment lights illuminate normally.
STEP 15. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-118 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.
Q: Is ETACS-ECU connector C-118 in good condition?
YES: Go to Step 16.
NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. Verify that the luggage compartment lights illuminate normally.
STEP 16. Check the wiring harness between luggage compartment light connector F-21 (terminal 2) and ETACS-ECU connector C-118 (terminal 52).
NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-90 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connector C-90 is damaged, repair or replace the damaged component(s) as described in Harness Connector Inspection.
Q: Is the wiring harness between luggage compartment light connector F-21 (terminal 2) and ETACS-ECU connector C-118 (terminal 52) in good condition?
YES: Go to Step 17.
NO: The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary. Verify that the luggage compartment lights illuminate normally.
STEP 17. Check the input signal (by using the Pulse check mode of the monitor).
Check the input signal of the liftgate latch switch
CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool MB991958, always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool MB991958.
1. Connect the special tool. Refer to "How to connect SWS monitor." How to Connect SWS Monitor
2. Operate scan tool MB991958 according to the procedure below to display "Pulse check."
a. Select "Interactive Diagnosis."
b. Select "System select."
c. Select "SWS."
d. Select "Pulse Checking."
3. When the liftgate is opened and closed, check if scan tool MB991958 sounds or not.
Q: When the liftgate is opened and closed, does scan tool MB991958 sound?
YES: Replace the ETACS-ECU. Verify that the luggage compartment lights illuminate normally.
NO: Refer to Inspection Procedure P-9 "ETACS-ECU does not receive a signal from the liftgate latch switch
STEP 18. Check trunk light connector F-21 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.
Q: Is trunk light connector F-21 in good condition?
YES: Go to Step 19.
NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. Verify that the trunk lights illuminate normally.
STEP 19. Verify the trunk light bulb.
Q: Is the luggage compartment bulb in good condition?
YES: Go to Step 20.
NO: Replace the bulb. Verify that the trunk lights illuminate normally.
STEP 20. Check the battery power supply circuit to the trunk light. Measure the voltage at trunk light connector F-21.
1. Disconnect trunk light connector F-21 and measure the voltage available at the harness side of the connector.
2. Measure the voltage between terminal 1 and ground.
- The voltage should equal approximately 12 volts (battery positive voltage).
Q: Is the measured voltage approximately 12 volts (battery positive voltage)?
YES: Go to Step 23.
NO: Go to Step 21.
STEP 21. Check ETACS-ECU connector C-119 for loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector.
Q: Is ETACS-ECU connector C-119 in good condition?
YES: Go to Step 22.
NO: Repair or replace the damaged component(s). Refer to Harness Connector Inspection. Verify that the trunk lights illuminate normally.
STEP 22. Check the wiring harness between trunk light connector F-21 (terminal 1) and ETACS-ECU connector C-119 (terminal 6).
NOTE: Also check junction block connector C-101 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If junction block connector C-101 is damaged, repair or replace the damaged component(s) as described in Harness Connector Inspection.
Q: Is the wiring harness between trunk light connector F-21 (terminal 1) and ETACS-ECU connector C-119 (terminal 6) in good condition?
YES: No action is necessary and testing is complete.
NO: The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary. Verify that the trunk lights illuminate normally.
STEP 23. Check the wiring harness between trunk light connector F-21 (terminal 2) and ETACS-ECU connector C-118 (terminal 52).
NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-90 for loose, corroded, or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. If intermediate connector C-90 is damaged, repair or replace the damaged component(s) as described in Harness Connector Inspection.
Q: Is the wiring harness between trunk light connector F-21 (terminal 2) and ETACS-ECU connector C-118 (terminal 52) in good condition?
YES: Go to Step 24.
NO: The wiring harness may be damaged or the connector(s) may have loose, corroded or damaged terminals, or terminals pushed back in the connector. Repair the wiring harness as necessary. Verify that the trunk lights illuminate normally.
STEP 24. Check the input signal (by using the pulse check mode of the monitor).

CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool MB991958, always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool MB991958.
1. Connect scan tool MB991958 to the data link connector.
2. Operate scan tool MB991958 according to the procedure below to display "Pulse check."
a. Select "Interactive Diagnosis."
b. Select "System select."
c. Select "SWS."
d. Select "Pulse Checking."
3. When the trunk lid is opened and closed, check if scan tool MB991958 sounds or not.
Q: When the trunk lid is opened and closed, does scan tool MB991958 sound?
YES: Replace the ETACS-ECU. Verify that the trunk lights illuminate normally.
NO: Refer to Inspection Procedure P-9 "ETACS-ECU does not receive a signal from the liftgate latch switch
