CONNECTING ROD AND CRANKSHAFT IDENTIFICATION
PURPOSE
A running change was made to the connecting rods and crankshaft to the affected vehicles as of September 9, 2004 ENGINE PRODUCTION for weight reduction. The old style connecting rods weigh 640 grams and the new style weigh 574 grams. The old style crankshafts weigh 17.24 kg and the new style weigh 16.2 kg.
Vehicles with VINs from 5E027888 to 5E039606 could have either style connecting rods and crankshaft. When looking up the part numbers in CAPS on a particular VIN, it may display the incorrect part numbers. DO NOT rely on the part numbers shown in CAPS.
Always use the same style parts that were originally used in the engine. If a short engine is to be installed, it is not necessary to use this bulletin.
IMPORTANT:
AN ENGINE VIBRATION WILL OCCUR:
^ IF THE OLD AND NEW STYLE CONNECTING RODS ARE USED IN THE SAME ENGINE.
^ IF THE NEW STYLE CONNECTING RODS AND OLD STYLE CRANKSHAFT ARE USED IN THE SAME ENGINE.
^ IF THE OLD STYLE CONNECTING RODS AND NEW STYLE CRANKSHAFT ARE USED IN THE SAME ENGINE.
