HOW TO READ DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES

NOTE: The TCL system is controlled by the ABS-ECU. TCL diagnostic trouble codes are also indicated by flashing of the ABS warning light.

1. Use special tool MB991529 to ground number 1 terminal of the data link connector.

CAUTION: Do not depress the brake pedal after the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position. If the brake pedal is depressed while the ABS is inoperative and the ignition switch is "ON," the ABS warning light will remain on. Because of this, diagnostic trouble codes will not be read out.

2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.

3. Read out a diagnostic trouble code by observing how the warning light flashes.

4. Disconnect special tool MB991529.
