Before diagnosis or parts replacement, check to see if the vehicle has an aftermarket audio system. Some audio systems receive speedometer input to increase the volume at highway speeds. First check the wiring between the audio system and the combination meter to see if the wire for the speedometer RPM signal might be shorting out.
