Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming: Service and Repair

DANGER: In order to avoid injury to yourself or others from accidental deployment of the air bag during servicing, read and carefully follow all the precautions and procedures described.

WARNING: Battery posts, terminals and related accessories contain lead and lead compounds. WASH HANDS AFTER HANDLING.

DISARMING
Disconnect the negative battery cable, wait 60 seconds or more before proceeding with work.
The SRS system is designed to retain enough voltage to deploy the air bag for a short time even after the battery has been disconnected, so serious injury may result from unintended airbag deployment if work is done on the SRS system immediately after the battery cable is disconnected.

ARMING
1. Connect battery ground cable.
2. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position.
3. Does the "SRS" warning light illuminate for about 7 seconds, and then remain off for at least 5 seconds after turning off?
4. If yes, SRS system is functioning properly. If no, refer to system diagnostics in Air Bag Systems.
