A/T - Color Variation Explanation

No: TSB-03-23-004
DATE: April, 2003
MODEL: See Below

SUBJECT:
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID (ATF) COLOR
VARIATION

PURPOSE

This bulletin contains information concerning color variation of the ATF used in certain Mitsubishi vehicles.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) delivered to the assembly plant did not contain the appropriate quantity of red dye which gives the ATF its normal red tint. The color of the ATF for the models listed below appears clear to slightly yellow/orange instead of the typical red color. Laboratory testing confirmed the ATF meets all specifications and does not create any transaxle performance or durability issues. Do not change the transmission fluid due to the lack of red dye. Because the fluid is nearly clear, it may be more difficult to see on the dipstick. Be very careful when checking the fluid level on the dipstick of these vehicles to avoid overfilling the transaxle.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This bulletin affects all vehicles listed below equipped with automatic transaxle built between and including February 7, 2003 and March 3, 2003.

2003 Eclipse & Eclipse Spyder w/automatic transaxle
2003 Galant
2004 Endeavor
