No: TSB-02-42A-006

DATE: June, 2002

MODEL: 2001 - 03 Eclipse Spyder

SUBJECT:
HEADLINER INSTALLATION TIPS (ATTACHING HEADLINER TO REAR GLASS)

PURPOSE

This bulletin Contains procedures for the reinstallation of the headliner onto the rear glass. Unless these procedures are followed exactly, the headliner may not remain attached to the glass Velcro.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
2001-03 Eclipse Spyder convertible

PROCEDURE

If the outside temperature is below 80 degrees F, do this procedure inside where the ambient temperature should be above 75 degrees F.

If the outside temperature is above 80 degrees F, perform this entire reattachment procedure outside.

1. If the outside temperature is above 80 degrees F, park the car outside, with the top closed, the rear glass facing into the sun. Allow the car's top to warm up to the outside ambient temperature for approximately 1 hour.

2. Raise the top approximately 1/3 of the way open, and again allow the top to warm up in the open for approximately 1/2 hour.

NOTE:
Steps 1 and 2 will cause the top and headliner material to soften and expand, making it more pliable.

3. With the top still in the 1/3 open position, get into the rear seat of the vehicle and carefully reattach the headliner Velcro securely to the Velcro on the rear glass. Keeping the top 1/3 open, allow the top to remain outside in the sun for an additional 1/2 hour, to continue to soften the top material.

4. When the top material is sufficiently warm and pliable, close and latch the top using the procedures below. The headliner should remain in place attached and adhered to the Velcro on the rear glass. The headliner should remain attached unless it is again knocked/pulled loose.

a. When the top is closed completely, pull down the top by holding the pull down handle and ensure the left guide pin and then the right guide pin enter their respective holes (receivers) at the upper frame of the windshield.

b. Then press in the latch handles to lock the top (j-hooks will engage into the receivers).

CAUTION
Confirm that the top is locked securely without any gaps between the top and the front roof rail.
