SUBJECT:
REAR WHEEL BEARING NOISE ABS SENSOR TO REAR KNUCKLE SEALING METHODS
PURPOSE
Rear wheel bearing noise may be due to water intrusion. When servicing rear wheel bearings, rear ABS speed sensors, or rear knuckles, follow the procedures in this bulletin to improve sealing ability.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1999 - 2001 Galant; 2000-2001 Eclipse; 2001 Eclipse Spyder models equipped with ABS.
PROCEDURE
Since May 4, 2001 production, the rear knuckles have a machined groove for an 0-ring at the ABS speed sensor mounting point.
1. On vehicles built before 5/4/01 (rear knuckles without an 0-ring groove), apply RTV silicone sealant to the mating surface of the ABS speed sensor before installing.
2. If installing a rear knuckle which has an 0-ring groove, install the 0-ring in the groove before installing the ABS speed sensor to the knuckle. Be sure the 0-ring is properly seated in the groove.
PARTS INFORMATION
