SUBJECT:
POWER SEAT SWITCH OPERATION NOISE
THROUGH INFINITY(R) AUDIO SYSTEM
PURPOSE
This bulletin contains repair instructions for correcting a condition where the operation of the driver's side power seat switch causes a popping noise from the speakers of the factory Infinity(R) audio system.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The customer may complain of a popping noise through the audio system when operating the driver's side power seat switch. This noise may be heard during operation of FM, AM, tape, or CD functions. A countermeasure jumper harness with a capacitor has been developed to eliminate this noise. This harness can be connected directly between the floor harness and power seat switch.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This bulletin may affect all vehicles listed below which are equipped with the factory-installed Infinity(R) audio system:
1999-2001 Galant
2000-01 Eclipse
2001 Eclipse Spyder
PROCEDURES
2000-01 Eclipse & 2001 Eclipse Spyder
1. Move the driver's seat all the way to the back of its travel. Locate and disconnect the power seat switch connector under the driver's seat.
2. Connect the new jumper harness to the power seat switch connector. Connect the other end of the new harness to the floor harness.
3. Place the jumper harness/floor harness connector under the capacitor and secure it to the floor harness in two locations with electrical tape.
NOTE:
Use at least three turns of electrical tape in each area when securing the jumper harness to the floor harness.
4. Check for proper operation of the power seat. Make sure that there is no interference between the jumper harness and the seat frame when the seat is moving. Verify that there is no speaker noise when the seat is moving.
