Drive Belt Tension CheckGenerator Drive Belt Tension Check
Check the drive belt tension by the following procedure.
Standard value:
CAUTION: Turn the ignition switch off before connecting or disconnecting the scan tool.
1. Connect the scan tool (MUT-II) to the data link connector.
2. Connect the special tool (belt tension meter set) to the scan tool (MUT-II).
3. Turn on the ignition switch and select "Belt tension measurement" from scan tool (MUT-II) menu screen.
4. Hold the microphone (MB991668) to the middle of the drive belt between the pulleys (at the place indicated by the arrow), about 10 - 20 mm (0.39 - 0.79 inch) away from the rear surface of the belt and so that it is perpendicular to the belt (within an inclination of ± 15°).
5. Gently tap the middle of the belt between the pulleys being measured (refer to the illustration) with your finger, and check that the vibration frequency of the belt is within the standard value range.
CAUTION:
1. Measure when the belt surface temperature is close to room temperature.
2. Make sure that water or oil, etc., does not get on the microphone.
3. If a strong wind blows or noise is made close to the microphone during measure, the meter will show a value that differs from the actual value.
4. If the measurement is taken with the microphone touching the belt, the meter will show a value that differs from the actual value.
5. Do not measure while the engine is running.
Use a belt tension gauge to check if the belt tension is within the standard value.
Apply 98 N (22 lbs.) of pressure against the location between the pulleys shown by the arrow in the illustration to check if the deflection is within the standard value.
