ABS - Diagnostic Connector Wired Incorrectly
NO.: TSB-98-35-003DATE: April, 1998
MODEL: See below
SUBJECT:
ABS DTC RETRIEVAL
PURPOSE
When diagnosing the ABS system on all-wheel drive models, incorrect wiring in the data link connector may prevent the MUT-II scan tool from communicating properly. As a result, data list information for the ABS system will not be read by the scan tool. To eliminate this condition, follow the data link connector repair procedures described in this bulletin.
On both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive models, ABS DTCs may be read by using the ABS warning light procedure described in this bulletin.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1998 Eclipse all-wheel drive models equipped with ABS produced before 11/18/97
PROCEDURE
1. Remove the data link connector (B-38) from the mounting bracket by pressing its side tabs.
2. Cut the yellow/red wire at pin 8 as close as possible to the data link connector. Then remove about 1/2 inch of insulation from the wire.
3. At pin 7 (pink wire), remove about 1/4 inch of wire insulation at about one inch away from the female terminal.
4. Wrap the yellow-red wire around the exposed section of the pink wire. Solder the wires together and install electrical tape around the solder connection.
5. Reinstall the data link connector. To confirm the repair, complete Steps 6 and 7.
6. Connect the MUT-II scan tool to the data link connector. Do not use adapter harness MB991545.
7. To access the ABS data list, follow the MUT-II selection sequence shown.
NOTE:
On both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models, you can also read ABS diagnostic trouble codes using the ABS warning light (instead of the MUT-II):
1. Use a jumper wire to ground terminal 1 of the data link connector.
2. Turn the ignition switch to "ON" and read (count) the flashes of the ABS warning light.
