AUDIO FAILURE
This bulletin replaces TSB-97-54-015 which should be discarded Revisions include new audio unit ordering procedures. Replacement audio units required for this bulletin must be ordered from the MELA exchange centers rather than from MMSA Parts.
PURPOSE
This bulletin has information about production and field repair procedures for audio failure on various late 1997 model year production and early production 1998 model year 3000GT, Eclipse, Eclipse Spyder, Galant, and Montero Sport models.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Symptom
After installing the optional CD changer or CD player; the audio head unit (radio) will not switch to the CD changer or player when pushing the CD button. The radio either remains in the mode it was in before the CD button was pushed (either AM, FM, or TAPE) or displays the error code "ERR".
Cause
A problem during the radio head unit manufacturing process causes this malfunction.
Remedy
If you encounter this condition with an affected vehicle's radio, replace the audio unit (radio) with a modified one. All radios produced after June 24, 1997 are OK.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
The following vehicles with listed radios produced between May 1, 1997 and June 24, 1997 are affected by this bulletin.

1997-98 Eclipse & Eclipse Spyder

PARTS INFORMATION
Obtain a replacement audio unit from the MELA radio exchange center for your area of the country (either H & R Radio for dealers east of the Mississippi or Yamada for dealers in the west) DO NOT order from MMSA Parts.
