Camshaft, Rocker Arms & Shafts Replace

REMOVAL
Follow the removal procedure outlined in the illustration, noting the following:

1. When removing the camshaft sprocket, rotate the crankshaft in the forward (right) direction and align the timing marks. (No.1 cylinder is the compression stroke at top dead center position.)

CAUTION: The crankshaft must always be rotated in the forward direction only.

2. Tie the camshaft sprocket and timing belt with a cord so that the position of the camshaft sprocket will not move with respect to the timing belt.

3. Use the crankshaft pulley and end yolk holders tool Nos. MD998719, MD998754 and MB990767, or equivalents, to remove the camshaft sprocket with the timing belt attached.

CAUTION: After removing the camshaft sprocket, be sure not to rotate the crankshaft.

4. Before removing the rocker arm and shaft assembly, install the lash adjuster holder tool No. MD998443, or equivalent, so that the lash adjusters will not fall out.

INSTALLATION
Reverse the removal procedure to install, noting the following:

1. When installing the rocker arm and shaft assembly, temporarily tighten the rocker shaft with the bolt so that all rocker arms on the inlet valve side do not push the valves.
2. Fit the rocker shaft spring from the above and position it so that it is right angles to the plug guide.

NOTE: Install the rocker shaft spring before installing the rocker arm and rocker arm shaft on the exhaust side.

3. Remove the lash adjuster holder tool (for fixing the lash adjuster).

4. Confirm that the rocker shaft notch is in the direction shown.

5. When installing the camshaft oil seal, apply engine oil to the camshaft oil seal lip and use the camshaft oil seal installation tool No. MD998713, or equivalent, to press-fit the camshaft oil seal.
