Brake Shoe: Service and Repair

BRAKE SHOE REMOVAL

Rear Drum Brake Shoe Assembly:

1. Loosen the parking brake cable adjusting nut.
2. Remove the brake drum.
3. Remove the shoe-to-lever spring.
4. Remove the adjuster lever.
5. Remove the shoe-to-lever spring and auto adjuster assembly.
6. Remove the retainer spring and shoe hold-down cup, hold-down spring and shoe-to-shoe spring.
7. Remove the shoe and lining assembly and lever assembly.



8. Use a flat tipped screwdriver or equivalent to open up the retainer joint, and remove the retainer.
9. Remove the wave washer and parking lever.
10. Remove the shoe, hold down pin and lining assembly.
11. Remove the flange nut and speed sensor.

LUBRICATION POINTS
Refer to the illustration for lubrication areas.

BRAKE SHOE INSTALLATION
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:





- Install the wave washer in the direction shown.





- Use pliers, or the equivalent, to install the retainer on the pin securely.
- Refill the hydraulic system and bleed air.
- Refer to "Brake Bleeding"
- Service and Repair

- Adjust parking brake lever.
