Front Clutch





DISASSEMBLY
Follow disassembly steps outlined in illustration.

NOTE: Disassembly service points as follows:





A. Snap ring removal. (6)
1. Compress the return spring with the special tool.
2. Remove the snap ring.

ASSEMBLY
Assembly in reverse order as Disassembly.

NOTE: Assembly service points as follows:





A. Snap ring installation. (6)
1. Compress the return spring with the special tool.
2. Install the snap ring.
B. Clutch reaction plate installation. (2, 4 & 5)





1. Install the clutch reaction plate with their missing tooth portions (A in the illustration) in alignment.

NOTE: This design is to facilitate escape of automatic transmission fluid and improve the cooling efficiency of the plate and disc.





2. Install the innermost plate with their shear droops directed as shown in the illustration.
Plate No.
1: 5.0 mm (.197 inch)
2: 2.2 mm (.087 inch)
3: 2.2 mm (.087 inch)
4: 2.2 mm (.087 inch)
5: 3.8 mm (.150 inch)





C. Snap ring selection. (1)
1. Check clearance between the snap ring and clutch reaction plate. To check the clearance, hold entire circumference of the clutch reaction plate down with 50 N (11 lbs.) force. If clearance is out of standard value, select a snap ring to obtain the standard value.
Standard value: 0.7-0.9 mm (.028-.035 inch)

NOTE: Position the gap of the snap ring approximately 180° away from that of the return spring mounting snap ring.
