Turbocharger: Service and Repair









REMOVAL
1. Drain Cooling System.
2. Drain engine oil.
3. Follow the procedure outlined in the illustrations, noting the following.





4. Remove front heated oxygen sensor using special tool MD998770.
5. Remove the turbocharger assembly with the exhaust fitting, water pipe assembly (A), water pipe assembly (B) and the oil pipe assembly attached to it.
6. Remove oil pipe assembly.

CAUTION: After disconnecting the oil pipe, take care that foreign material does not enter the oil passage hole of the turbocharger assembly.

INSTALLATION
1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order, noting the following.

CAUTION: When cleaning, take care that no foreign material gets into the engine coolant or oil passages hole.





2. Clean the alignment surfaces shown in the illustration.
3. Supply clean engine oil through the oil pipe installation hole of the turbocharger assembly.





4. Install the coned disc spring in the shown direction.
5. Tighten the flange nuts and bolts to 27 - 31 Nm (20 - 23 ft. lbs.).





6. Use the special tool to further tighten by 60° - 70°.
