Removal/Installation






REMOVAL
1. Drain engine oil.
2. Remove oil level gauge.
3. Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to Exhaust System.
4. Follow the removal procedure outlined in the illustration.





5. Remove the transfer mounting bolts with the propeller shaft still installed.
6. Insert a flat-tipped screwdriver or similar tool in-between the transfer assembly and transaxle, and remove the transfer assembly from the center shaft.
7. Remove the transfer assembly from the propeller shaft.

NOTE: Do not tilt the transfer assembly to the rear, or transfer oil will leak out.

8. After removing the transfer assembly, insert the special plug tool No. MB991133, or equivalent, to prevent the transfer oil from leaking out.
9. Suspend the propeller shaft from the vehicle chassis with wire.





10. After removing the oil pan mounting bolts, remove the oil pan with seal cutting tool No. MD998727, or equivalent, and a brass bar.

CAUTION: Do it slowly to avoid deformation of the oil pan flange.

INSTALLATION
1. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

NOTE: After cleaning the oil pan mounting bolt holes in the oil seal case, the oil pan should be installed.





2. Replace the gasket and install it in the direction shown.
3. Torque mounting bolts to 6.9 Nm (5.1 ft. lbs.) and fill engine crankcase with oil.
